Improving the North American Map

Hi everybody,
I'm now playing my I don't know which game as Central America (certainly, on the 31 Map_.
One thing I noticed - just how inferior the American Map is to Europe's and I think even North Africa part of it.
One thing I adore about European map is how balanced it and how smart the micro-engineering solutions are, - all of this spurring so much dynamic and drive to be creative (irrespective of whether one has gm or not).
Thing about the American part is that so little of it all it has. It is a bit like a remote colony of big far-away empire. You losers - go lion-hunting, and we - the better part of it - go on for real business.
It's a bit unfair, not so much interesting and (hey, Bytro people) I think this leads to people abandoning games.
Saying that, however, I don't want to say things are bad or hopeless.
I want to say that small things can make big difference.
And I thought about it (namely, how to make people living in North America have a little better time fighting each other than now).
First, a few more points for roads and harbors in the central part of it. Give Lakes Ontario and erie a point so people might be able to cross them. Or even build b-ships, if they are crazy (-rich) :).
Second, (and this is the same for north africa) - make a few more provinces. I'm on day 24, but I just got two enemy countríes' flag, while people i europe rolling over bulgaria, serbia and so on..
Third, one more oil province would be good.
Fourth, New York, Moose, Moncton are so large provinces, why not split them.
Fifth, why not try a few islands in the Atlantic. Could be one in the Bermuda, the Azores and the Canary Islands.
Just few ideas for now. But for one sole purpose - to make it a bit more challenging for guys on the other side of the Atlantic.
