I think this goes overlooked actually... The "Kills" stat for a certain unit, telling you how many other units they've killed/defeated.
In real life, when wars just started, most armies were full of green, young, baby-faced boys who were naive and full of whiskey and spirit. In their first battles, many of them cried or even wet themselves out of fear. However, fast-forward a year and these troops have become real, honest-to-goodness soldiers. They're veterans of war.
To get to the point, I think that, depending on how many "kills" a certain regiment has, it should get a slight bonus or at least an advantage over groups with less experience. What do you all think?
