The Legacy of Versailles - Alternate History Roleplay 1920.

The Great War was a devastating conflict that ended the old order in Europe. It was one of the deadliest conflicts in history, and paved the way for major political changes, including revolutions in many of the nations involved.
While the Allies managed to be victorious in the event (especially due to the american intervention), it was a Pyrrhic victory which left all nations involved broken or half broken, allowing some nations to gain independence (from both sides of the conflict), as well as paving the way for a new world order.
After the war, the Paris Peace Conference of 1918 imposed a series of peace treaties on the Central Powers officially ending the war, even if the treaties agreed upon were not as severe as intended. The United States, however, had suffered less in the conflict and it’s thanks to it’s efforts and firm stance, that it was possible to cripple the former German Empire and deplete it of most of it’s colonies as well as the payment of reparations to the allies, as the Central Powers had to acknowledge responsibility for "all the loss and damage to which the Allied and Associated Governments and their nationals have been subjected as a consequence of the war imposed upon them by" their aggression.
The Treaty of Versailles was the final peace treaty agreed upon, and it has been accused of being a diplomatic failure, but one that everyone had to acknowledge as to avoid another conflict and had clauses ranging from war crimes, the prohibition on the merging of Austria with Germany without the consent of the League of Nations, freedom of navigation on major European rivers, to recognizing newly independent nations (mostly by Woodrow Wilson’s initiative).
Regardless of the treaty’s effectiveness, or the revanchism it will bring, one thing is for certain, this is the treaty that will now shape the world, this is the Legacy of Versailles!

Nation List
Great Powers:The United Kingdom of Britain and Ireland has been one of the world's leading powers, and has patrolled the entire globe with it’s superior navy. The aftermath of the Great War was a bit costly to the United Kingdom, and while they managed to hold on to most of their overseas possessions like India and South Africa, Egypt was lost and granted independence (while retaining ownership over the Suez Company). Canada would enter a period of government instability leading to a civil war that would eventually gain them full independence from the British Empire. Now the British must attempt to maintain their Empire despite the rise of other regional powers in Europe and Asia.
British Vassals:

The Third French Empire was formed in 1929 after the People’s Republic of France was defeated by the British Empire in Britain’s vendetta against the Third Internationale. French industry never really recovered from the Great War and the several communist revolutions France went through over the 1920s further punished French Industry. It is obvious they are in a period of decline, yet they maintain a firm grip upon West Africa and will still prove to be a significant force in European politics.
French Vassals:
Kaiser Wilhelm III came to power after the Kapp Putsch of 1920. For many years he remained under the regency of his uncle Eitel Friedrich until he came of age to rule the country. German expansion has been limited due to the costs of reparations and the limitations imposed upon the Empire by the Treaty of Versailles. However, the German Empire maintained control of the majority of its colonies in Africa and remains a global power with an ever developing industry. Recently, it has regained control of East Prussia as well as the Polish corridor and won the War of Polish Succession leading to Kaiser Wilhelm III becoming King of Poland as well as Germany.

Bolshevik Russia came out as the victor in the Russian Civil War with many decisive victories against the Whites who were supported and funded by outside powers. However, the British war of aggression against the Third Internationale effectively contained the marxist ideals of Permanent revolution with several countries capitulating to the British Empire. However, the USSR remains strong and is an ever growing shadow over Europe. Its aims will be to dismantle the newly formed Russian Empire under General Wrangel.
The United States of America remains an isolationist state with an expansive and ever growing industry that could challenge any nation in the world. It has left the League of Nations and the majority of its diplomatic concerns come from South America. Any attempts at changing the tides of war in Europe, for example the Austro-Romanian War, have failed. However, it still boasts a large amount of influence in Asia with its territories in the Philippines and is expected to participate in the ever changing political climate of Asia.
The Empire of Japan has greatly expanded since its unification under the Imperial Throne under the Meiji restoration. The early 20th century saw the asian nation rise from an isolated plot of land, to a major political power after the Russo-Japanese War which saw the destruction of the Russian Far East Navy and damaging Russian prestige worldwide. The Japanese Empire rose from the deprivation of the Russian Empire and would develop a strong bond with the British Empire, officially joining the Great War on the side of the Entente; seizing large proportions of German colonies, including the South islands and Tsingtao. The Tsingtao incident also escalated Japanese-Chinese relations and would be one of the reasons of Japan's future military expansion in the region with the fall of Shanghai and the Qing Empire taking the reins from the ruins of the Kuomintang; leaded by the strings of Japan. By 1930, the Liberal Prime Minister, Osachi Yamaguchi, considered Pro-British and positive towards continuing the Anglo-Japanese relations, which had been strained following the occupation of Hong Kong by Japanese Military. When a British Submarine under the authority of the South African government was found spying and trespassing on Japanese territorial waters, the Japanese Navy quickly, without permission from the government, besieged the submarine and captured the crew. The incident escalated when five Japanese submarines were sunk by the British Navy in what would be known as the "Kudat Incident"; despite the apologies of Prime Minister Hamaguchi, the British Empire declared war; leading to the assassination of Osachi Hamaguchi by an ultranationalist in 1932. Hamaguchi's death weakened the Liberal Party and a Deputy Prime Minister was appointed, but failed to appease the Japanese population with the harsh terms imposed by the British for an official peace. In 1933, the Emperor forced the sitting Prime Minister to resign, appointing his younger brother, Prince Yasuhito; a staunch military-man and advocates of Japanese expansionism, as the Prime Minister; the Imperial intervention weakened the Japanese Parliament, forging a new path of Absolutism in Japan; the democracy instituted by Emperor Taisho has fallen, as the Imperial Throne once more holds the supreme political and religious power and authority in the Empire.

Although heavily affected by the Treaties of Trianon and Versailles, the Austro-Hungaro Empire has managed to find a way to revive itself under the restored Habsburg Crown. Over time, King Charles IV has renounced the Treaties, reformed the Empire with the implementation of Trialism ( Austro-Hungaro-Croatian Empire ), restored his title of Emperor-King, become a founding member of the Tripartite Pact, and aggressively rearmed and expanded the Empire through a series of diplomatic maneuvers, power moves and outright aggression. Although turning to internal affairs, the world cannot help but wonder for how long..
Having joined the Tripartite Pact in 1924, the Italian State under Gabriele d'Annunzio was able to defeat the Italian Socialist Republic in Northern Italy. Upon annexing the Northern provinces Gabriele d'Annunzio looked to find a place in the sun and colonized the Eritrean and Somalian coastlines with little Abyssinian resistance. Now they control a sizable navy in the mediterranean and an army to be reckoned with, yet they still live in the shadow of their Tripartite partners. However, in 1934, a monarchist coup took place putting Victor Emmanuel III in power, this coup was supported by the Vatican and will go onto redefine the political situation in Italy.
